Mi-STAR in the News: Sixth Graders Battle Garlic Mustard
Thursday, May 30, 2019
Sixth-grade Mi-STAR science teacher Kari Keith is featured in the May 23 Township View article, “White Pine Students to Remove Invasive Species at Imerman Park.” Her class is among 380 White Pine Middle School students spending two days removing garlic mustard from a local park.
The activity ties in with Mi-STAR Unit 6.6: "The Tangled Web We Weave": Interactions Within Ecosystems. “We will wrap up our unit with this awesome community service project where students will see, first hand, the impact of invasive species right in their own community,” said Keith.
Over the years, she plans to return to the Saginaw County park with her students to monitor the garlic mustard’s persistence and continue the eradication effort.
